Tafsir & Explanation
In this Ayah, Allah سبحانه و تعالى describes some of the characteristics of the disbelievers who would be exposed to the Hell fire prior to their judgement. Those characteristics are:

  1. They are blind to Allah’s Signs in this world, or blind to the Noble Qur’an and unable to ponder on its meanings nor benefit from its lessons and wisdom.
  2. They are completely deaf to the truth of Allah’s Words and that of His Messenger ﷺ. It could also mean that they do not wish to hear it.

In previous ayah we learn how the hell will be shown to the disbelievers and this is a part of the punishment on the day of judgement. How will the hell be brought forward? It will be like a wild animal inhaling and exhaling. It will be brought chained and leashed up. What is the objective of informing us about this? It is so that we can rectify our affairs with our creator. We need to begin to fear and prepare for this day, we need to visualize it. We need to realize there is nothing between us and the day of judgement apart from death.

What is the previous ayaah?

“And We will present Hell that Day to the Disbelievers, on display”
{Surat Al Kahf 18: Verse 100}

‘Abdullah bin Mas’ud narrated that the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) said:
“Hell will be brought forth on that Day (of Resurrection) having seventy thousand bridles, and with every handle will be 70,000 angels dragging it'”.
{At Tirmidhi}

Who is fire being brought forward for?
This is for people whose eyes were within a cover removed from the remembrance of Allah. Ghita – غِطَآ is from the root letters غ, ط, ئ. Ghita is used for Al-Libaas – a garment, a clothing. It is a type of garment that COMPLETELY WRAPS OR ENVELOPES SOMETHING. It is such a thick cover through which nothing can be seen. It is not see through at all you cannot see anything from it not even light.

And figuratively Ghita is also used for “Gafla meaning heedlessness or negligence”. A person is so taken by desires no matter what comes infront of him he doesn’t notice or sees it.

These are the people who are removed from the remembrance of Allah meaning The Qur’an. They were unable to obtain guidance from Qur’an they were in complete ignorance.

Most Muslims these days are in this sad state as well. The Qur’an is right in front of us but we do not see it or benefit from it. As soon as our soul leaves our body its either the view of hell fire or the face of Allah سبحانه و تعالى.
THE CHOICE IS OURS.

We are being told about this so we can prepare for that day. What Allah سبحانه و تعالى tell us in the wise Qur’an is the truth. May Allah سبحانه و تعالى protect us and not make us one of them, ameen.
