Explanation
This Rabbana Dua is verse number nine of Surat ‘Āli-`Imrān. Those ‘firm in knowledge’ conclude their supplication for steadfastness in faith with the declaration that indeed everyone has an appointment with Allah. With these words they are reminding themselves and they are reminding us. The promised gathering is inevitable because Allah subhanawatala never breaks His promises and because we will have no choice but to appear.

The truth will be apparent on that Day and all disputes will be resolved and no injustice will be tolerated. The ones who believe in all of the ayaat of the Book and implement them in their lives to the best of their ability will receive the reward that they truly deserve. Their belief is characterized with wisdom and humility and absolute faith in the reality of the Hereafter. This conviction, combined with their constant supplication, keeps them firmly grounded upon the path of guidance

“Our Lord, let not our hearts deviate after You have guided us and grant us from Yourself mercy. Indeed, You are the Bestower.”
(Surat ‘Āli-`Imrān 3: Verse 8)

They lead lives full of direction and focus because each day is a preparation for the momentous meeting with Allah. Along the way they prioritize the tasks that will please Allah and forsake those that will displease Him. They place their trust only in Allah and are fearful that their own hearts might betray them. They fear that the love of this dunya, of fame, of family and friends will corrupt their hearts and distract them from preparing for the Ultimate Appointment.

“The Day when there will not benefit [anyone] wealth or children.
But only one who comes to Allah with a sound heart.”
(Surat Ash-Shu`arā’ 26: 88-89)

They can smell the intoxicating scent of Paradise and hear the fierce crackling of the fire of Hell and they often wonder, “Will I be able to face Allah on that Day when nothing will be hidden?”

The desire to be accepted, loved and appreciated by the One who can truly understand drives them to ihsaan (excellence) and grants them the courage to be forgiving and generous.

Reflection

  • Guard the gift of guidance
    • Protect your heart by watching what you consume of food and technology.
    •  Surround yourself with those striving towards their Rubb.
    • Entrench yourself to a productive routine of ibadah, Quran, zikr, exercise and social works.
    • Regularly rid your heart of anger, hatred, jealousy, self-pity and regret.
    • Re-route your life
      • Reset your GPS to Jannah by reminding yourself of the Day of Judgment. Inshallah once you reach Jannah you will not need to ask for directions because you will instinctively know your way home.
      • Supplicate profusely and be of those…

[Who say], “Our Lord, let not our hearts deviate after You have guided us and grant us from Yourself mercy. Indeed, You are the Bestower.
Our Lord, surely You will gather the people for a Day about which there is no doubt. Indeed, Allah does not fail in His promise.”
(Surat ‘Āli-`Imrān 3: Verses 8-9)
