“GEM SHEET FOR BUSY MUSLIMS”

  1. Allah Subhanahu wata’aala can grant a different type of knowledge to some of his creatures. When there is someone more knowledgable than us, we take time to go and spend with them so that we can learn in their company.
  2. Rasulallah salallahu aleyhi wasallam said: “We hope Musa aleyhi salaam could have had more patience, so we could have learnt much more from the wisdom of Al-Khidr.”
  3. IMPORTANCE OF SUNNAH – Allah says: “Should I inform you about those whose deeds will be wasted? Who are those who will be having deeds that shall be absolutely wasted? Those who think they are doing a lot of good but what they are doing is actually against what Rasulallah salallahu aleyhi wasallam has taught.” All the acts of worship we engage in, we must ensure that we have been taught them by Rasulallah salallahu aleyhi wasallam.
  4. A lot of us read Surah Kahf on a regular basis but do you realize that the message in towards the end where it says make sure whatever we do is taught by Rasulullah salallahu aleyhi wasallam. This is because he has taught every point of goodness and we believe in it. He did not forget a thing. So if we feel we have come up with something different, something new, indirectly we are saying he forgot to teach us and that is a very very big insult to Muhammad salallahu aleyhi wasallam.
  5. Do you know what men are guilty of? They don’t realize that the stretch marks on the belly of the woman, those are actually signs of contributing to the Ummah of Muhammad salallahu aleyhi wasallam. Wallahi, they are signs of jihad. They are signs  of a huge sacrifice. May Allah subhanahu wata’aala grant us the ability to understand that those marks are actually the marks that might take the woman to Jannah. May Allah take them to Jannah In sha Allah!
  6. Allah asked Zakariyah aleyhi salaam and Mariam aleyhi salaam to keep quiet and keep the fast of speech. Allah is teaching us in the Surah both times that silence is golden.
  7. Everyone who follows their desire will be punished except those who repent – Allah says: “Those that came after the messengers and they left their deeds and actions and began to follow their desires, they shall all be cast into a punishment except those who repent”.
  8. There will be a bridge as thin as a hair, according to Prophet salallahu aleyhi wasallam everyone will have to cross it. Those who were doing good deeds in the dunyaa will cross it like a lightning and those who were evil will be slower and slower, so much so that those who will be tightroping on it, they were evil and not engaged in tauba, they will fall into Jahannam. Allah says: “The criminals shall be driven to Jahannam. But those who believe, we shall save them”.
  9. GRAVE & GREAT SIN! The statement made by the people who say that God has a son. “How dare they say that I has a son. Do they know what it implies?” Allah says: “The sky is about to tear, the Earth is about to come to pieces and to rupture and to explode and the mountains are about to explode because they know how serious the statement is that Allah has a son.
  10. FOR ALLAH ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE – Jesus aleyhi salaam was a prophet and he was born miraculously without a father and we have explained before that Adam aleyhi salaam was born with no father, no mother. Hawwa/Eve born through male with no involvement of a female with the miracle of Allah. Jesus aleyhi salaam born through a female without the involvement of a male by the miracle of Allah. All of us here are born through male and female.
  11. Taha, it is said to be one of the names of Propet Muhammad salallahu aleyhi wasallam.
  12. Enjoy! Life comes only once. So enjoy!” Haven’t we heard that statement? But Islam doesn’t want that from us. What Islam wants from us, is Discipline. Each one of us must be potential leaders. No drinking, no gambling, no drugs, no zina and so on. We must be sober people who are intelligent and have a focus in life and we continue in a manner that each one of us is a leader.
  13.  HOW ALLAH TEACHES KUFFAR – When Allah revealed “Did the story come to you about ..” The Kuffar each one thought their name would be there. When Musa was said, there was a sigh of relief and they understood that it was a story of the previous prophets. So Allah subhanahu wata’aala has used words like these to draw the attention of the Kuffar of Meccah.
  14. Why Meccah? Because in Meccah, they used to put their fingers in their ears. They didn’t want to listen to the verses. So, Allah subhanahu wata’aala revealed verses that shocked them. They never ever heard this. They were so eloquent, but they never ever heard “Alif Laam Meem.” Once they heard that, they wanted to know what was happening. So, we must understand that Allah subhanahu wata’aala uses certain words to draw the attention of the Kuffar. It is a miracle of Allah. That is why we say that nobody can compete with the Quran.
  15. Musa aleyhi salaam prolonged his conversation with Allah swt. What are we learning from that? The closest we are to our creator is in salaah in Sujood. But with us, it is the other way around. We want to dart up again as though there are springs in our foreheads from springmaster. When you come for Salaah, it must be complete concentration. Don’t be bothered about time.
  16. ETIQUETTE OF DAWAH: The best at that time was Musa and Haroon aleyhi salaam. The worst of the time was Firawn. Allah sent the best of the time to the worst of the time and Allah told them to go and guide him. The best was sent to talk to the worst. Allah says go and speak to him softly, quietly. So, from this we learn that when we go to tell others what is right and wrong, we must be careful how we word our statements. Don’t expect results overnight. Speak very very politely and make the people feel like we are muslims.
  17. Allah says: “There will be certain people who will be resurrected blind on the day of Qiyyamah and they will say Ya Allah, why are we resurrected blind and yet we could see in the dunya. Allah subhanahu wata’aala will say no, when our signs and reminders came to you, you turned a blind eye and you did not listen to them. So today because you forgot us in the dunya We will forget you now you wont be able to see.”
  18. Allah subhanahu wata’aala tells us and this is one of the last verses we read tonight about the day of Qiyyamah and the fact that He will put up a scale. Literally a scale that has good and bad. A scale that on one side has the good deeds and the other side the bad deeds. Allah subhanahu wata’aala says: “On the day of Qiyyamah, We will put up the scales and we will weigh the deeds of every single person, the good and the bad. Even a mustard seeds worth of good or bad that is done by anyone we will bring it to book.”

ORIGINAL TRANSCRIPT

As salaamualikum wa rahmatullai wa barakatahu – In the name of Allah, The Most Gracious, The Most Merciful.

All praise is due to Allah subhanahu wata’aala, complete blessings and salutations upon prophet Muhammad salallahu aleyhi wasallam and all his companions and all of us. May Allah subhanahu wata’aala make us the true followers of Muhammad salallahu aleyhi wasallam  and may He bless us all.

Honored Ulema and beloved brothers and sisters,
Allah subhanahu wata’aala has mentioned in Surah Khaf the story of Al Khidr with Musa aleyhi salaam where once Musa aleyhi salaam was asked who is most knowledgable. Naturally, being the prophet at the time, he answered that he was the most knowledgable. Allah subhanahu wata’aala wanted to show him that if Allah wills He can grant a different type of knowledge to some of his creatures. So Allah subhanahu wata’aala told him: “Ya Musa, If you follow a certain route then at a certain point you will find a certain worshipper of mine and you will learn something from him that you do not know.”

So, Musaaleyhi salaam couldn’t wait to meet this man and he followed the path and he went and having seen certain signs that he was told and show by Allah subhanahu wata’aala. He then realized that this was the man and he told this man: “Can I be with you for a moment? Can i spend some time with you?” This was Al-Khidr and Rasulallah salallahu aleyhi wasallam also told us this story and he said Musa aleyhi salaam asked to spend time with Al-Khidr. From this we learn that when there is someone more knowledgable than us, we take time to go and spend with them so that we can learn in their company. Musa aleyhi salaam, it was simple for him to sit with Al-Khidr and tell him to teach. But he didn’t do that. He said: “Let me spend some time with you.” This is because when you see how they live the day, that is 24*7, you will learn lots and lots of things. May Allah subhanahu wata’aala give us the opportunity to spend time at the feet of the Ulemah. May Allah grant us the ability to respect them and to sacrifice from our busy schedules to spend some time with the Ulemah.

Musa aleyhi salaam was allowed to spend time with this man, Al Khidr and he was told under one condition. What was the condition? That condition is that “Don’t ask me. If there is something that you don’t understand, I will explain it to you. But, don’t question what I do.” So, Musa aleyhi salaam said that he would fulfill that condition and they began to walk. After sometime they jumped into a certain boat and this man made a  hole in the boat. Musa aleyhi salaam said: “Why are you making a hole in this boat? Why? It belongs to some innocent people here and you are just making a hole? You are damaging the property that belongs to someone else.” So Al-Khidr told him: ” Didn’t I tell you that you wont be able to bear patience? I told you not to ask me. I told you wait, when the time comes I will explain to you what its all about. You will see it at one point.” This was inspiration given to Al-Khidr by Allah subhanahu wata’aala.

So, Musaaleyhi salaam said: “Don’t hold it against me that I had forgotten. Don’t punish me, I forgot. I wont do it again.”

Al-Khidr then said no problem and lets carry on. As they walked they saw a young man. Al-Khidr killed him. So Musa aleyhi salaam automatically asked: “Hey, How can you kill an innocent man? He’s a youngster, we don’t even know him! Next thing you execute him and you carry on like nothing has happened?” So, he says and this is now the beginning of chapter 16 in the Quran that we started with tonight. Al-Khidr said: “Didn’t I tell you that you wont be able to understand what im doing, you wont bear patience regarding what you see coming from me.”

Musa aleyhi salaam said: “Oh, Im sorry! Now if I question anything that you do then you don’t need to accompany me. Now you can kick me out of your company, your companionship.” So, they agreed and they continued and as they continued they went into a certain town and the people of the town were asked to grant them some food and some accommodation and so on and these people refused to entertain them. They refused. The town said that you people can move and carry on and that they didn’t want to see them there. they refused to entertain two visitors or some visitors. As they were walking out of that little town, they noticed a wall that was about to collapse. So, Al-Khidr took some time, some effort and energy and he went and he repaired that wall. He made it straight again.

So, Musa aleyhi salaam told him: “You know these people didn’t even want to entertain us. Now you’re fixing their wall for nothing? If you want we could have collected some money for fixing this wall. Why did you just fix it for free like this.”

So, this is when Al-Khidr says: “This is now the splitting point between me and you. I will explain to you now what has happened, what you could not bear patience regarding. Let me explain it to you. As for the boat, that i made a hole in and damaged, further upstream there was a certain leader who was taking away all the good boats. This boat belonged to two poor people who were trying to earn sustenance through ferrying people to and from and now if it had nothing wrong with it, it was going to be taken. So i thought, let me make a small hole, at least they will be able to fix it and it wont go away completely and later on they will understand that this was worth it. If there was no hole, it would have been taken away completely. That was the first one.”

Now Musa aleyhi salaam was listening and understanding that the knowledge was given by Allah subhanahu wata’aala to someone else. Then, the second thing. He says: “As for the young man that I killed, I was inspired by Allah subhanahu wata’aala that this boy who had parents who were good, had he been granted life and seen his youth then he would be very very disobedient to his parents and he would be a means of being a burden upon his parents. So, to protect the parents from that type of a child, I was inspired by Allah subhanahu wata’aala to eradicate him, to eliminate him,”

Please, this does not mean that why we see youngsters who are unruly we must go and eradicate them. No ways! This was Al-Khidr, he was granted knowledge by Allah subhanahu wata’aala and it is not to us to do all this. May Allah grant us understanding. So, he says that we should make dua for his parents for someone better. This was the second issue that you could not bear patience with.

As for the third item, there were two youngsters whose treasure happened to be under that particular wall. Their father died leaving behind for them a certain treasure and the treasure was under the wall. Had the wall fallen, others would have seen the treasure and probably stolen it. But I made the wall straight because in future when the time comes, they will find their way to that particular treasure because the wall was straight. That is why I actually straightened the wall for free. May Allah subhanahu wata’aala grant us understanding.

Rasulallah salallahu aleyhi wasallam said: “We hope Musa aleyhi salaam could have had more patience, so we could have learnt much more from the wisdom of Al-Khidr.” May Allah subhanahu wata’aala bless us all. From this, we also learn that when we are in the company of the Ulemah, sometimes they might tell us things that we don’t understand but we need to realize that sometimes its better for us. It is for our own rectification. It for our own good that sometimes they tell us certain things whether we understand it or not. Yes, we are allowed to question and in Islam, we are allowed to question absolutely anything if we don’t understand it. We are taught as muslims that we must understand absolutely everything.

So, it is not wrong to ask but there is a method of asking. There is a time and place for asking. May Allah subhanahu wata’aala make us from among those who can seek knowledge, understand it, put it into practice and teach it to others as well.

Then Allah subhanahu wata’aala after having mentioned that story of Al-Khidr, he speaks about those who are losers. Those, whose deeds shall be a waste. Those who do a lot of deeds, but those deeds are a waste. Allah says: “Should I inform you about whose deeds will be wasted? Who are those who will be having deeds that shall be absolutely wasted? Those who think they are doing a lot of good but what they are doing is actually against what Rasulallah salallahu aleyhi wasallam has taught.”

Why is this verse there? Lets understand that the Muffasireen have explained and the Ulemah have explained that the Rasulallah salallahu aleyhi wasallam’s message was to teach us every drop of goodness. “There is no form of goodness that he forgot to teach us.”

So, if we think that there is a form of goodness that we can come up with, there is an act of worship that we think we should engage in. I want to read five rakat at Zuhr because i feel it is a very holy/blessed day. Rather than reading four, let me read more, then that automatically becomes a waste. We have wasted our time and energy and effort. We are insulting Prophet Muhammad salallahu aleyhi wasallam because he thought us goodness and we feel like there must be something he left or forgot to tell us. Like, you can add a fifth rakah if you want. So, this is something we need to think of. All the acts of worship we engage in, we must ensure that we have been taught them by Rasulallah salallahu aleyhi wasallam. If we were not taught them, what was the point of engaging in them? We are basically saying indirectly that, you know what he forgot to tell us this but this is part of deen, let me do it. So Allah says: “Those whose deeds are astray and yet they think they’re doing good deeds, may Allah subhanahu wata’aala keep us steadfast.

For this reason, at the end of the Surah, Allah subhanahu wata’aala says: “Those who want to meet Allah subhanahu wata’aala must ensure that their deeds are in conformity with what Rasulullah salallahu aleyhi wasallam has taught. They must also ensure that they do not engage in Shirk, they do not associate partners with Allah subhanahu wata’aala. May Allah protect us all!

Alhamdulillah! Allah has granted us with intellect, we need to think anytime we have to engage in an act of worship. Do you know that, those acts of worship in which the whole muslim ummah unanimously says that there is nothing wrong with this, then that list will be so large that we start engaging in it one after the other, we will not have time to deal with the other activities in which half the Ummah are debating against. Why must we even go to those deeds when there are so many deeds that are unanimously agreed upon. If i want to engage in istighfaar no one is going to say anything to me, If i want to read my Tahajjud, no one is going to argue with me. If i want to complete one quran in three days no one is going to argue with me. If i want to fast a day, leave a day, no one is going to argue with me. So, there are so many acts of worship that we can engage in where the whole ummah will agree with us that there is nothing wrong with this act of worship. Yet, we find ourselves going into actions which are very very questionable where the Ummah debates, “Hey, this person is engaged in wrong, this is not substantiated in the Quran, not substantiated in the sunnah of the Prophet salallahu aleyhi wasallam. May Allah subhanahu wata’aala grant us the respect of the Ulemah, the respect of Allah and the respect of his messenger. May Allah subhanahu wata’aala protect us all.

So, That is in Surah Kahf.

Allah subhanahu wata’aala has named the next Surah, Surah Mariam because the story of Mariam aleyhi salaam is repeated there, the story of the miraculous birth of Jesus Christ is repeated there, the fact that he is not the son of god and so on is repeated there. Allah commences with the story of Zakariah aleyhi salaam. Allah begins to say that Zakariah aleyhi salaam did not begin to lose hope regarding the male child that he didn’t have. He continued making dua until one day when he was very old and Allah subhanahu wata’aala told him: “O Zakariah, we are giving you good news of a son that shall come to you whose name will be Yahya (John the baptist).” May Allah subhanahu wata’aala grant us understanding.

Now he felt ashamed. You know, sometimes if a person has a child after 15 years gap and the person begins to feel that he is very old and the wife is very old, what answer are we going to give the public. Believe me, there are no answers. If you are married, Alhamdulillah! If you are not married, then there are answers that you have to give. But, if you are married, no problem! That is a gift of Allah subhanahu wata’aala. Sometimes, a woman can give birth even when she is 50, by the will of Allah. If Allah wills, even beyond that. That is the qudra and power of Allah subhanahu wata’aala rabbul izzati waljalal.

But Zakariah aleyhi salaam, he felt it in his heart and he told Allah subhanahu wata’aala: “Give me a sign. Some sort of sign that i can achieve comfort and solace through.” And Allah says: “Your sign is that for three days and three nights don’t speak to anyone.”

Just bear this in mind and lets go to the story of Mariam aleyhi salaam. She found herself pregnant. She also asked Allah how it was possible and Allah said that this was through the power of Allah subhanahu wata’aala. He shows this as a sign for the entire humanity. May Allah grant us the ability to respect that Nabi of Allah, Jesus Christ, may peace be upon him. Allah subhanahu wata’aala then makes mention of what he told Mariam. Imagine, it was difficult, very difficult. She said, “I just wish i was dead before this point”. So many women in pregnancy, at the final stages they wish they were dead. May Allah not do that to us. May Allah safeguard our women and make life easy for them and make giving birth easy for them in sha Allah!

Wallahi, it is a very big jihaad, very very big jihad to give birth. Rasulullah salallahu aleyhi wasallam tells us: “Get married to those women that are loving and child bearing”. I would ilke to bring to you that nabi which has the most followers. May Allah grant us the acceptance to have as many children as possible. But, quality children. Not that we have ten children and nine of them are astray because we didn’t have time to look after them. We must in sha allah look after our children and give them an upbringing that even the messenger salallahu aleyhi wasallam would be proud of in the day of Qiyyamah.

So we ask Allah subhanahu wata’aala to make it easy for the women folk. As I have mentioned in many of my lectures.

Mariam aleyhi salaam was also told, “If a person comes to you to question tell them that you are fasting, not the fasting of abstaining from food but the fasting of abstaining from speech. Don’t talk to anyone and point at the child.” So Allah says her sign was also silence, she had to remain quiet. What does this mean? Allah is teaching us in the Surah both times that silence is golden. Sometimes, silence can solve our problem. What type of silence? Intellectual Silence and not foolish silence. When someone says, How are you doing? and you say We were told to be quiet. Now that is very very foolish silence. But, when someone wants to get into a problem with you, they are testing you and trying you and they want to really befall you with something evil, you rather be quiet and in sha allah, time will heal those wounds. Time heals most wounds. You should remember that. So be quiet and follow intellectual silence in sha allah!

So, Allah subhanahu wata’aala tells Mariam aleyhi salaam to remain silent and point at the child and when she points at the child, Isa aleyhi salaam/ Jesus Christ spoke from the cradle. He said: “I am the worshipper of Allah. Allah very soon shall give me the book.” Allah subhanahu wata’aala gave him the book and makes mention of what else he said from the cradle. May Allah subhanahu wata’aala grant us the ability to accept all these miraculous messages in sha allah!

After that Allah subhanahu wata’aala speaks about some of the other prophets in the same surah and he makes mention of those people who left their salah, who followed the messengers certain time after they came, they forgot their salah. Meaning, their form of worship that they were taught by their messengers and they began to follow their desires. So Allah says all of them shall be punished. He makes an exception and I’m sure all of us know what the exception is. Allah says: “Those that came after the messengers and they left their deeds and actions and began to follow their desires, they shall all be cast into a punishment except those who repent”. May Allah make us among those who repent. Those who believe and those who do good deeds thereafter. Allah says definitely those shall enter Jannah. May Allah subhanahu wata’aala take us into Jannah. In fact in tonights verses, in more than one place, Allah subhanahu wata’aala mentions about the Tauba. In another place, Allah says: “I would like everyone to know that I am most forgiving to the person who seeks forgiveness and who believes and who does good deeds”. May Allah subhanahu wata’aala grant us the mercy of his at all times. Aameen.

Then Allah subhanahu wata’aala makes mention of Jahannam and the fact that every one of us is going to cross over a certain bridge over Jahannam. It is the Siraat. As siraat, the bridge that we will be crossing over Jahannam. Allah says: There will be a bridge as thin as a hair, according to Prophet salallahu aleyhi wasallam. Everyone will have to cross it. Those who were doing good deeds in the dunyaa will cross it like a lightning and those who were evil will be slower and slower, so much so that those who will be tightroping on it, they were evil and not engaged in tauba, they will fall into Jahannam. Imagine if I were to tell you that there is a bridge or a rope over the ocean and this is hairlike. The one we are talking about is hairlike. The rope is a bit thick and even if we have ten ropes over the ocean, im sure Jahanaam is bigger than the Atlantic Ocean we see here. We would be very very scared. This Allah is mentioning to warn and tell us to turn before it is too late. Allah says: “The criminals shall be driven to Jahannam. But those who believe, we shall save them”. Those who were conscious about His commands. May Allah subhanahu wata’aala cure us. May He make us conscious of his commands.

At the end of the Surah, Allah subhanahu wata’aala tells us how serious this statement is. May Allah safeguard us.

Imagine that the other creatures of Allah know and they feel it when others say that God has a son. Do we know what the implies? Yes, we know the Jesus aleyhi salaam was a prophet and he was born miraculously without a father and we have explained before that Adam aleyhi salaam was born with no father, no mother. Hawwa/Eve born through male with no involvement of a female with the miracle of Allah. Jesus aleyhi salaam born through a female without the involvement of a male by the miracle of Allah. All of us here are born through male and female. May Allah subhanahu wata’aala grant us all guidance and may he guide those that are uttering these words towards the goodness and the truth. Aameen.

Then Allah subhanahu wata’aala commences a very interesting surah.

SURAT TAHA
Taha, it is said to be one of the names of Propet Muhammad salallahu aleyhi wasallam. That is because immediately after Allah subhanahu wata’aala says “Taha”, he addresses the prophet. Allah says: “We did not reveal this Quran to you in order that it might be a point of distress for you”. You know the Kuffar, sometimes we are also guilty of having made the statements that they have made. Some muslims come and say, “you know what, Islam is too hard. Too many rules, too many regulations, too many rules and regulations.”

Well, the Kuffar at the time of the Prophet Muhammadsalallahu aleyhi wasallam said the same thing. They said “Why do you want to follow this Quran? It comes with too many rules and regulations. Live how you want. This is the life of this dunya. We were born in this dunya and we will die. Enjoy! Life comes only once. So enjoy!” Haven’t we heard that statement?

So, Allah subhanahu wata’aala tells the prophet: “No, this quran was not revealed so that it can be a point of distress for you, so that it can be rules and regulations for you.”

You know, I went to a school. We all know that a school with more rules and more regulations is better than the one with very few rules and regulations. Now, does that mean that we should go to schools which has more rules and regulations? No, it is common sense. The private schools have many many rules and they will even tell you about the garters you have to wear on your socks. Allahuakbar! If you don’t have that elastic band on your socks, they will send you home. Why? That does not mean it is a bad school with too many rules. It means that it is a school that wants discipline. This is what Islam wants from us, Discipline. Each one of us must be potential leaders. No drinking, no gambling, no drugs, no zina and so on. We must be sober people who are intelligent and have a focus in life and we continue in a manner that each one of us is a leader. May Allah subhanahu wata’aala make us all leaders.

So, Allah subhanahu wata’aala tells that to proofet salallahu aleyhi wasallam and after a few verses Allah makes mention of Musa aleyhi salaam. Believe me, there are so many jewels. Allah subhanahu wata’aala says: “Did the story come to you of Musa aleyhi salaam. One of the miracles of the Quran, Allah did not use the word Musa at the beginning. He says: “Did the story come to you of Musa aleyhi salaam. So, the word Musa is used at the end. This is because the Kuffar probably thought that their name was going to be there. You know, there is a verse in the Quran where Allah subhanahu wata’aala speaks of the hypocrites. Allah says that the hypocrites are worried that anytime Allah can expose them. So, when the verse came down: “Did the story come to you about ..” The Kuffar each one must be thinking that their name would be there. When Musa was said, there was a sigh of relief and they understood that it was a story of the previous prophets. So Allah subhanahu wata’aala has used words like this to draw the attention of the Kuffar of Meccah. For example, When we say “Taha” or “Alif Laam Meem”, the meaning of these names Allah knows best. They are separated letters. Do you know that every single surah that has separated letters was revealed in Meccah besides the first two, Al-Bakarah and Al-Imran. As they let go of their fingers from the ears, the next verse came. In Meccah, the verses revealed were very short and sharp. So, as they went to put their fingers back into their ears, the verse was already finished and they were now contemplating what was said. As they released their fingers, there was another one that hit them and as they put it back, the verse was complete and so on. These are the secrets of the verses of Meccah. In Medinah, the verses were long because the people were now listening to it. So, we must understand that Allah subhanahu wata’aala uses certain words to draw the attention of the Kuffar. It is a miracle of Allah. That is why we say that nobody can compete with the Quran.

Then Allah subhanahu wata’aala tells us about Musa aleyhi salaam. I want to draw one example. Do you know when Allah subhanahu wata’aala tells Musa aleyhi salaam. He says: “What is it in your right hand O Musa?” Do you think Allah subhanahu wata’aala didn’t know? Allah knew better than Musa what was in his right hand. But this was an opportunity for Musa aleyhi salaam to communicate with his Rabb. Now the proper answer if someone asks me what is in my right hand, i would say it is a paper in my right hand. But Musa aleyhi salaam decided you know what, this is a chance. I might not get it in the future again, let me seize it and speak as much as i can to Allah subhanahu wata’aala. “O Allah subhanahu wata’aala, it is a stick. Sometimes i lean on it ya Allah.” Allah did not ask him what he does with it but he said that he sometimes leans on it.  “Sometimes i use it for my flock, i use it to direct my flock Ya Allah.” And he didn’t stop there. “And sometimes, I use it for other things as well Ya Allah.”

Look how beautiful it is, he is speaking to his creator and he is uttering and uttering. What are we learning from that? The closest we are to our creator is in salaah in Sujood. But with us, it is the other way around. We want to dart up again as though there are springs in our foreheads from springmaster. May Allah protect us.

So, as we go down, it rebounds us back up again. Yet, this is what we learn from Musa aleyhi salaam that this is the opportunity we get to be close to Allah, to communicate with him. Why do we want to come up so suddenly? Take your time!

And this is why we always tell the men and the women folk that don’t leave you car running and say let me finish my salaah and come. Switch it off and take the battery out even. This might be your last salaah. When you come for Salaah, it must be complete concentration. Don’t be bothered about time. Those people who complain about time, they haven’t understood the lesson here. The same applies to the womenfolk. Don’t leave your stove and say let me quickly finish my salaah and come back to check it. Switch it off, put your pot aside and read your salaah and then come and do your cooking. We cant give preference to a pot of food over Allah subhanahu wata’aala. Nor can we give preference to a motor cycle over Allah subhanahu wata’aala.

Here is Musa aleyhi salaam, what an example! He spoke so much because he knew it was an opportunity. We too, when it comes to salaah, lets take our time In sha Allah! May Allah help us to achieve the coolness of our eyes in Salaah.

Rasulullah salallahu aleyhi wasallam says regarding the coolness of his eyes in Salaah. May Allah subhanahu wata’aala do that to us as well. So, That is just an example that we have drawn from the story of Musa aleyhi salaam.

Another very potent example that we draw here tonight. Allah subhanahu wata’aala sent Musa and Haroon to Firawn. Lets take a look of who was who there. The best at that time was Musa and Haroon aleyhi salaam. The worst of the time was Firawn. Allah sent the best of the time to the worst of the time and Allah told them to go and guide him. The best was sent to talk to the worst. Firawn, is there anyone that we can say is the Firawn of our community? No, no one at all! No one says I am Allah. Not even from amongst the non-muslims.

It is reported that Abu Jahl was like the Firawn in Muhammad’s salallahu aleyhi wasallam time. May Allah subhanahu wata’aala grant us understanding. But, with Firawn himself Allah tells Musa and Haroon: “Go and speak to him with soft speech, with polite speech, with beautiful speech so that maybe there is a chance that he can remember or fear and was told to speak very nicely. Now, for us if we want to correct and rectify something what do we do? Firstly, we are not the best, we are not prophets. We are not Musa and Haroon aleyhi salaam. We are nowhere near. We have our own weaknesses and we are not sent to speak to the worst so then we must be speaking in an even better manner. Allahuakbar!

But yet, we get to the children “Hey, why are you not reading you salaah?” Pick up a stick and go. Did Allah say pick up a stick and go beat up this man because he is saying “I am your Rabb”. No! Allah says go and speak to him softly, quietly. So, from this we learn that when we go to tell others what is right and wrong, we must be careful how we word our statements. Don’t expect results overnight. Speak very very politely and make the people feel like we are muslims. Make them feel wanted and not away from the mercy of Allah subhanahu wata’aala. May Allah subhanahu wata’aala really grant us all lessons from this.

Allah subhanahu wata’aala, after that makes mention of those that turn away from the signs of Allah especially in this dunya. So today because you forgot us in the dunya We will forget you now you wont be able to see.” May Allah subhanahu wata’aala not do that to us on the day of Qiyyammah. May he make us amongst those who can turn and repent every single day.

SURAT AL AMBIYA
Allah subhanahu wata’aala in the next surah which is Surah Ambiya, Allah makes mention of the fact that the angels do not get tired. They worship Allah subhanahu wata’aala and they do not get tired. “They praise Allah subhanahu wata’aala day and night, night and day and they never ever pause for a break and they never get tired at all.” Allah subhanahu wata’aala tells us and this is one of the last verses we read tonight about the day of Qiyyamah and the fact that He will put up a scale. Literally a scale that has good and bad. A scale that on one side has the good deeds and the other side the bad deeds. Allah subhanahu wata’aala says: “On the day of Qiyyamah, We will put up the scales and we will weigh the deeds of every single person, the good and the bad. Even a mustard seeds worth of good or bad that is done by anyone we will bring it to book.” May Allah subhanahu wata’aala forgive us for the bad. May he count our evil and forgive it. May he multiply our good deeds In sha Allah! May he multiply the good deeds to the degree that we earn Jannah through the mercy of Allah subhanahu wata’aala.
