Learn Tajweed With Yasir Qadhi : Tafkheem Part 1 (Episode 8)

TAJWEED NOTES

1. Allah praises Himself in the Qur’an because He revealed Qur’an. Meaning He is worthy of worship because He has revealed this book to us.

[All] praise is [due] to Allah , who has sent down upon His Servant the Book and has not made therein any deviance.
{Surat Al Kahf 18 :1}

Blessed is He who sent down the Criterion upon His Servant that he may be to the worlds a warner
{Surat Al Furqan 25 :1}

2. In yet another verse Allah commands us to stay/be happy because Qur’an is more precious than all that this earth contains. The scholars say about this ayah
a) Bounty in Qur’an
b) And Mercy is Islam

Say, “In the bounty of Allah and in His mercy – in that let them rejoice; it is better than what they accumulate.”
{Surat Yunus 10:58}

3. We pray Allah helps us in appreciating this beauty and blessing of the qur’an – ameen.

4. Today we will discuss the characteristic of the letters, some letters are heavier than the other letters.

5. The heavy letters are called “letters of Tafkheem”. Tafkheem means to make something thick or heavy. The letters of isti’laa are also the letters of tafkheem.

ظ (Dhaw), ط (taw) , ق  (Qaf), غ (Gha), ض (Dhod), ص  (Sawd), خ (kha)

6. There are 2 letters that are occasionally heavy and occasionally light –

ل (Laam) & ر (Raa)

7. We will discuss ل (Laam) today. The general rule is all “laams” in the qur’an are light, all of them. Except in the name of Allah, when preceeded by a fatha or dhamma (Allah/Ullab). If the name is preceeded by a kasra it will not be heavy.
Eg.
a) Bimsillah – Light
b) Nasrullah – Heavy
