“GEM SHEET FOR BUSY MUSLIMS”

  • The process of Khushu does not start when we stand for Salat and say ‘Allahu Akbar’ but instead it starts before that.
  • When the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (saw) would make Wudu his face would turn pale. When he was asked he said ‘do you realize in front of whom I wish to stand for prayer? In front of Allah (swt)…it is that realization that in front of whom would I be standing to make my prayers’

Comments about Wudu

  •  In Surah Al-Ma’idah, Allah (swt) says: O you who believe! When you intend to offer As-Salat (the prayer), wash your faces and your hands (forearms) up to the elbows, rub (by passing wet hands over) your heads, and (wash) your feet up to ankles.
  • Intention:
When someone goes to sleep with the intention of waking up next day so that they have the energy to do Allah’s worship or for Fajr namaz..….he is rewarded for all the time that he sleeps because of his intentions for going to sleep. For a person who goes to sleep because he is tired or just wants to take rest he unknowingly loses out on those rewards.
  • Because of intention, the reward for small deeds is magnified many times.
  • We say Bismillah before beginning Wudu
  • We start with right hand first and then left hand second
  • For rinsing nose…use your right hand to take in water and left to blow it out…this is how Prophet Mohammed (saw) did it, its Sunnah.
  • For washing the face….we should wash from the tip to forehead to bottom of chin….make sure to wet the skin near the earlobes also, as that is also part of our face.
  • For washing arms…wash till the elbow, then flex your arm, bend it to be able to reach to the extra dry skin at the elbow joint
  • Wipe your hair with water, then the ear and behind the ear touching the neck as well
  • Then wash your feet. Sunnah of the Prophet Mohammed (saws) was to use the little finger (pinky) between the fingers of the feet. Make sure to wash the heels of your feet as well
  • Use little water for Wudu….it is Sunnah to use little water. Also, using lesser water means it takes more time to do your wudu and to realize the beauty of it as well.

Importance and Beauty of Wudu

  • Prophet Mohammed (saws) said when you make Wudu; you are washing away the sins that you have committed. Now when you are doing wudu, you think about your sins, all those are being washed away…..you realize the importance and beauty of doing Wudu. You hope that Allah (swt) forgives you for the sins that you have committed.
  • Prophet (saws) says to his Muazzin, Bilal….ya bilal, tell me what is the deeds that you have done that you expect the praise from Allah( swt) …for I have heard your footstep in Jannah… tell me what deeds have you done to earn this? Bilal says ya Rasulallah there is nothing that I do that I have hope in their rewards except that any time, day or night, I make Wudu and pray what Allah has asked me to pray.
Inferences from above are important and significant:
Importance of being in state of Wudu, always pray 2 rakah namaz or what Allah (swt) has asked us to pray, Allah (swt) likes consistency, how much ever small deed, He likes it when it is done continuously…so because of consistency of doing Wudu and Namaz every time he was rewarded those blessings.

The Day of Judgment and Wudu

  • Prophet SAWS says to one of the Sahabah that he wishes he could see his brothers and sisters….the Sahabah says we are your brothers but Prophet Mohammed (saw) says to the Sahabah that you are my companions; the brothers are those who come after us. The Sahabah then asks Prophet Mohammed (saw) that how you will recognize your brothers and sisters on the Day of Judgment. Prophet Mohammed (saws) then says imagine a scenario where you have a stable of black horses……amongst those black horses there are some horses with white foreheads and white forelimbs……would you be able to recognize those horses separately? Sahabah say yes. Similarly on the Day of Judgment, my Ummah will come to me…and their faces will be white and their limbs will be white, because of Wudu, he says this is how he would recognize us.And I will precede them and I will wait for them at the pond (Haud-e-Kauthar)
  • Prophet Mohammed (Saws) his pond (Haud-e-Kauthar) is 1 month long in distance……it’s water is more white than milk and it’s fragrance is more beautiful than musk and its vessels that people can drink from are more numerous than the stars in the sky….who ever drinks from that pond will never feel thirsty again…on that day we would want Prophet Mohammed (saws) to recognize us and to feed us that water with his own hands so as to relieve us from our misery. Imagine the thirst you would feel on the day of judgment….imagine the meaning of Prophet Mohammed (saw) recognizing you on the day of judgment because of your Wudu and the relief and pleasure of drinking from his hands a water with which you will never feel thirsty again.

So from now on while making Wudu, we try

  • To follow the Sunnah of Prophet Mohammed (saw)
  • We wash our arms and limbs thinking that our sins are being washed away
  • As we washed our face, we think we are filling it with the light of Allah (swt) so that on the Day of Judgment Prophet Mohammed (saw) will recognize us.

ORIGINAL TRANSCRIPT

The process of Khushu does not start when we stand for Salat and say ‘Allahu Akbar’ but instead it starts before that.
When the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (saw) would make Wudu his face would turn pale. When he was asked he said ‘do you realize in front of whom I wish to stand for prayer? In front of Allah (swt)…it is that realization that in front of whom would I be standing to make my prayers’

Comments about Wudu
1)  In Surah Al-Ma’idah, Allah (swt) says: O you who believe! When you intend to offer As-Salat (the prayer), wash your faces and your hands (forearms) up to the elbows, rub (by passing wet hands over) your heads, and (wash) your feet up to ankles.
What is obligatorywhile doing Wudu is to wash your face, arms hair and feet. Washing your mouth, nose, etc. actions that we do with the Wudu is the Sunnah that comes from Prophet Muhammad (saw)
2)  Intention is what matters most
When someone goes to sleep with the intention of waking tomorrow so that they have the energy to do Allah’s worship or to wake up to go to work or to wake up for Fajr namaz..….he is rewarded for all the time that he sleeps because of his intentions for going to sleep. For a person who goes to sleep because he is tired or just wants to take rest he unknowingly loses out on those rewards.
So when we make Wudu with the intention of following the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (saw) and for the love of Sunnah…..your reward for doing Wudu will be magnified. Because of intention, the reward for small deeds is magnified many times.
Example: A prostitute, who has committed many sins, sees a thirsty dog and gives it water to drink….Prophet Mohammed (saw) says with this small deed all her sins are forgiven and she is granted Jannat. Because her intention are for the sake of Allah, her mercy is what magnified rewards.
3)    We say Bsmillah-er-rahim before beginning Wudu
4)    We start with right hand first and then left hand
5)    For rinsing nose…use your right hand to take in water and left to blow it out…this is how Prophet Mohammed (saw) did it, its Sunnah.
6)    For washing the face….we should wash from the tip to forehead to bottom of chin….make sure to wet the skin near the earlobes also, as that is also part of our face.
7)    For washing arms…wash till the elbow, then flex your arm, bend it to be able to reach to the extra dry skin at the elbow joint
8)    Wipe your hair with water, then the ear and behind the ear touching the neck as well
9)    Then wash your feet. Sunnah of the Prophet Mohammed (saws) was to use the little finger (pinky) between the fingers of the feet. Make sure to wash the heels of your feet as well
10) Use little water for Wudu….it is Sunnah to use little water. Also, using lesser water means it takes more time to do your wudu and to realize the beauty of it as well.

Importance and Beauty of Wudu
Prophet Mohammed (saws) said when you make Wudu; you are washing away the sins that you have committed. He says when you wash your face; it is as if every single sin that your eyes have seen is washed away…when you wash your arms, any sins that the arms have committed is washed away with the last drop of water. When his feet are washed then all sins that the feet have walked on or the places of sins where the feet have taken you will be washed away.

Now when you are doing wudu, you think about your sins, you think about how many sins have my eyes committed, how many sins my arms have committed, how may sins my feet have taken me too…all those arebeing washed away…..you realize the importance and beauty of doing Wudu. You hope that Allah (swt) forgives you for the sins that you have committed.

Now you have your khushu when you make Wudu….khushu starts not at Salah time but before that.

Prophet (saws) says to his Muazzin, Bilal….ya bilal, tell me what is the deeds that you have done that you expect the praise from Allah(swt) …for I have heard your footsteps in front of me in Jannah…I was taken to Jannah by the angels and I saw you in front of me…tell me what deeds have you done to earn this? Bilal says ya Rasulallah there is nothing that I do that I have hope in their rewards except that any time, day or night, I make Wudu and pray what Allah has asked me to pray.

About the reason for Bilal to be so highly rewarded there are few different scholarly opinions but nonetheless all the inferences are equally important and significant:

1) Importance of being in state of Wudu
2) Always pray 2 rakahnamaz or what Allah(swt) has asked him to pray
3) Allah (swt) likes consistency, how much ever small deed, He likes it when it is done continuously…so because of consistency of doing Wudu and Namaz every time he was rewarded those blessings

The Day of Judgment and Wudu
Our Prophet Mohammed (saw) suffered a lot of pain in his lifetime and he also sacrificed a lot for his Ummah (6 of his children died in his lifetime) (We love prophet (saws) so much)

He says to one of the Sahabah that he wishes he could see his brothers and sisters….the Sahabah says we are your brothers but Prophet Mohammed (saw) says to the Sahabah that you are my companions; the brothers are those who come after us. Similarly on the Day of Judgment, my Ummah will come to me…and their faces will be white and their limbs will be white, because of Wudu, he says this is how he would recognize us.And I will precede them and I will wait for them at the pond (Haud-e-Kauthar) of Prophet Mohammed (saw).

If we don’t make Wudu, how will the Prophet Mohammed (saws) recognize us?

The Day of Judgment will last for 50,000 years and the sun will be only 1 Mile away….there will be no shade and everyone will be sweating according to their sins…there will be noplace to go except where they are standing and everyone will be thirsty….if we don’t make Wudu how will Prophet Mohammed (saws) recognize us?

Prophet Mohammed (Saws) his pond (Haud-e-Kauthar) is 1 month long in distance……it’s water is more white than milk and it’s fragrance is more beautiful than musk and its vessels that people can drink from are more numerous than the stars in the sky….who ever drinks from that pond will never feel thirsty again…on that day we would want Prophet Mohammed (saws) to recognize us and to feed us that water with his own hands so as to relieve us from our misery. Imagine the thirst you would feel on the day of judgment….imagine the meaning of Prophet Mohammed (saw) recognizing you on the day of judgment because of your Wudu and the relief and pleasure of drinking from his hands a water with which you will never feel thirsty again.

But there will be a group that would be denied the water of the pond…they will come there but the angels will drive them away….then Prophet Mohammed (saw) will say they are my Ummah let them come…..but the angels will say that these people, out of the love for Prophet Mohammed (saws) have invented a lot of things which even the Prophet Mohammed (saw) never did or used….now those same things that they invented would keep those people away from the Prophet Mohammed (saw) on the Day of judgment.

So from now on while making Wudu, we try
1) To follow the Sunnah of Prophet Mohammed (saw)
2) We wash our arms and limbs thinking that our sins are being washed away
3) As we washed our face, we think we are filling it with the light of Allah(swt) so that on the day of judgment Prophet Mohammed (saw) will recognize us.

Dua2: After wudu say this dua, when you do so it will be written on a parchment and shall be sealed and that seal shall not be broken until the Day of Judgment…..it shall be a reward for you on that day.

So now make Wudu thinking about these blessings and you shall start developing khushu.
