“GEM SHEET FOR BUSY MUSLIMS”

  • Allahu AkbarAllahhuAkbar
This statement is made 4 times when the call for Adhan is given – it means ‘Allah (swt) is greater’. It means ‘Allah is greater than anything and everything that you are doing put it aside and it’s now time for Salah’. It is a reminder to come to Allah (swt) no matter what anyone is doing.
  •  Ashhaduan la ilahailla Allah
I bear witness that no one is worthy of worship except Allah (swt). We have submitted ourselves to Allah (swt) and whatever Allah (swt) wants us to do, we do. We are praying for Allah (swt) only and not to impress anyone or to build some reputation.
  •  Ashahduannamohamamdurrasoolalah
I bear witness that Prophet Mohammad (saw) was a messenger of Allah (swt). These two statements are what we hope to be able to say at our death. This is what we live on and hope we die on – Allah (swt) is the only one worthy of worship and Mohammed (saw) is his messenger.
  • Adhan is a gift to us, like the Salah is a gift to us. We have been given a way to call our Ummah for prayer. Allah caused two different Sahabi to have the same dream about how to call our ummah for prayer to the masjid. Prophet Mohammed (saw) said to Bilal to make the call to prayer and bring our souls the comfort of prayer.
  • Hayya ‘ala-s-Salah – Hayya ‘ala-l-Falah
These verses mean ‘Come to Prayer’, ‘Come to Success’. These are the only verses in the Adhan which we don’t repeat after the Muazzin. Instead we say ‘walahawlawalaquwwataillabillah’.  This means that the ability to change from one state to another comes only with the help from Allah. In this case, when we are doing some work like studying and the call for prayer is made then we need Allah’s help in leaving whatever we are doing to change to a state of prayer. So when the Muazzin says come to prayer, we say we don’t have the ability to change our state and answer the call to prayer, we need help from Allah (swt).
  • Allahu Akbar
Again the Muazzin reminds us to come to Allah (swt) as Allah (swt) is greater that whatever you are doing. Leave all that you are doing and rush to answer the call for prayer from Allah (swt)
  • La ilahailla Allah
Then the Muazzin ends the Adhan with the testimony of faith – there is no God but Allah (swt). A call has been given to you to come and pray to the one whom you love the most –Ar-rahman, Al-Gaffar, Al-Halim, As-Salam, At-Tawwab, Al-Alim – the  one who gave you everything that you have, the one who created you, who loves you and whom you love, come and worship him.
  • Ayesha says about Prophet Mohammed (saw) – When the Adhan was called, it was as if he didn’t know anyone. He used to be focused only on getting ready for prayer.

For the Muazzin who calls the Adhan, there are a lot of rewards. It is said that even if you are alone in the desert make sure that you make the call for Adhan. • When the Muazzin makes the call for prayer, repeat after him except for Hayya ‘ala-s-Salah, Hayya ‘ala-l-Falah where we say walahawlawalaquwwataillabillah’.
  • Whoever repeats after the Muazzin, will also be rewarded by Allah (swt). After the Adan is heard, read the above mentioned Dua for the intercession of Prophet Mohammad (saw) on Day of Judgment and then make your Dua to Allah (swt), ask Allah (swt) for  whateveryou want , you would be given, your Dua would be heard.

Bismillaharrahmanarraheem

Allahu Akbar
Allahhu Akbar statement is made 4 times when the call for Adhan is given – it means ‘Allah (swt) is greater’. In normal conversations we make statements like I am taller than him, or I am shorter than him. So when the Adhan is called it means ‘Allah (swt) is greater than’. It means ‘Allah is greater than anything and everything that you are doing, put it aside and it’s now time for Salah’.It is a reminder to come to Allah( swt) no matter what anyone is doing. If someone does not answer this call to prayer it implies that whatever the person is doing is more important that the call from Allah (swt) for prayer. We are called four times to come to prayer in the beginning of the Adhan.

Ashhaduan la ilahailla Allah
I bear witness that no one is worthy of worship except Allah (swt). We have submitted ourselves to Allah (swt) and whatever Allah (swt) wants us to do, we do. We are praying for Allah (swt) only and not for any pretense or to impress anyone or to build some reputation. We are only praying for Allah (swt) with no other intentions.

Ashahduannamohamamdurrasoolalah
I bear witness that Prophet Mohammad (saw) was a messenger of Allah (swt). These two statements are what we hope to be able to say at our death. This is what we live on and hope we die on – Allah (swt) is the only one worthy of worship and Mohammed (saw) is his messenger.

Adhan is a gift to us, like the Salah is a gift to us. We have been given a way to call our Ummah for prayer. Allah caused two different Sahabi to have the same dream about how to call our ummah for prayer to the masjid. Prophet Mohammed (saw) said to Bilal to make the call to prayer and bring our souls the comfort of prayer.

Hayya ‘ala-s-Salah – Hayya ‘ala-l-Falah

Allahu Akbar
Again the Muazzin reminds us to come to Allah (swt) as Allah (swt) is greater that whatever you are doing. Leave all that you are doing and rush to answer the call for prayer from Allah (swt)

La ilahailla Allah
Then the Muazzin ends the Adhan with the testimony of faith – there is no God but Allah (swt). A call has been given to you to come and pray to the one whom you love the most –Ar-rahman, Al-Gaffar, Al-Halim, As-Salam, At-Tawwab, Al-Alim – the  one who gave you everything that you have, the one who created you, who loves you and whom you love, come and worship him.

We should experience and feel the Adhan. We should not just listen to the voice of Adhan. Every time of the day in the whole world, across the globe there is someone who would be making this call to prayer. The same verses from the time of Prophet Mohammed (saw) to this day said across the globe in each and every country, the same call to prayer. It’s beautiful and amazing – Subhan Allah.

Prophet Mohammed (saw) said to Bilal to make the call to prayer and bring our souls the comfort of prayer.

Ayesha says about Prophet Mohammed (saw) – When the Adhan was called, it was as if he didn’t know anyone. He used to be focused only on getting ready for prayer. We should focus only on Allah (swt) when we hear the Adhan – the call to prayer.

Dua for Adhan

Dua In English
AllaahummaRabbaHaazihidDa’awatitTaamMati Was SalaatilQaiymatiAatiSayyedanaMohammada Nil WaseelataWalFadeelata Wad DarajatarRafeea’ataWab A’s Hu MaqamamMahmooda Nil LaziWaA’tTahoo War ZuqnaShafaA’tahuYaomalQiyamah. Innaka La TukhlifulMeea’ad.

Narrated Jabir bin ‘Abdullah : Allah’s Apostle said, “Whoever after listening to the Adhan says ‘Oh Allah! Lord of this perfect call (perfect by not ascribing partners to You) and of the regular prayer which is going to be established, give Muhammad (saw) the right of intercession and illustriousness and resurrect him to the best and the highest place in Paradise that You promised him’ then my intercession for him will be allowed on the Day of Resurrection” [Bukhari]

When you listen to the Adhan and then say this Dua, then Prophet Mohammed (saw) would intercede on your behalf on the day of judgement – the day when we all will be longing for the intercession. After Adhan make dua to Allah (swt), He will answer your dua. Make dua to Allah (swt) to help us answer this call of prayer everytime so that we can die as a Muslim and meet Him as a Muslim.

Muazzin
For the Muazzin who calls the Adhan, there are a lot of rewards. It is said that even if you are alone in the desert make sure that you make the call for Adhan. Because on the Day of Judgement, everything that hears the Adhan– the pebbles, soil, jinn, sheep, sand –will bear witness that this slave of Allah (swt) made the call to prayer.

When the Muazzin makes the call for prayer, repeat after him except for Hayya ‘ala-s-Salah, Hayya ‘ala-l-Falah where we say walahawlawalaquwwataillabillah’.

Whoever repeats after the Muazzin, will also be rewarded by Allah (swt). After the Adan is heard, read the above mentioned Dua for the intercession of Prophet Mohammad (saw) on Day of Judgment and then make your Dua to Allah (swt), ask Allah (swt) for  whateveryou want , you would be given, your Dua would be heard.
