“GEM SHEET FOR BUSY MUSLIMS”

  •   No matter what’s going on and no matter what your minds wants to go to, you need to come back to Allah and remember that you are worshipping Allah.
  •  Even the scholars say this (rukoo’) is a pillar of the pillars of salah. It’s a pillar from the pillars of salah. Meaning what? Meaning if you don’t do it your prayer is invalid.
  • HADITH:  “Irraji’ fasalli fainnakalamtusalli” the man who prayed three different times. The Prophet kept telling  “Go back and pray for you haven’t prayed”. The reason why is because when it’s rukoo’, he didn’t come to a full stop, he came back up and went to the sajdah just like a like a bouncy ball. We can’t do that, in salah we can’t be like that. You go into rukoo’ you stop. Come into a full position of stillness. That’s number one.
  •  Asswaunnasis sarakhatan aladziyasrikuminsolatihi layutimmurukoo’aha walasujood aha. Walakushu’ aha. In authentic hadith Prophet wassalam said: “Most evil person who steals is not the thief but is the one who steals from his salah.” He doesn’t complete his rukoo’, he doesn’t complete his sujood, he doesn’t complete its, its khushoo’.  So when you go into rukoo’, you have to come and stop. Complete the rukoo’. Also, your back should be straight.
  • This is the position of humility. Submissiveness. When you do it, you do it for Subhanahuwattalla. You do it willingly. So think about what you’re doing.
  • True Story: You know there was once this lady at the airport. So she sees this three ‘Middle-Eastern-looking men’. So they look at their watches they nod to each other and they go to the bathroom. She’s like “Oh snap!”“I’m going to be the hero on CNN” So she’s like watching them closely and like what’s going on. She’s watching the bathroom and they all go in together and they all come out together. She’s like “I’m ready”. She’s got her cellphone out and she sees one man steps forward and two men stayed behind and they do, she says, they do these magnificent movements. She’s like, “I watched them, and I just felt this sense of comfort”. She’s like “I got on the plane”. She didn’t call the cops, Alhamdullilah. She gets on the plane and she says every time I close my eyes,I kept picturing those three men and what they were doing. She said “Wow, that was beautiful”. And she says “When I got off the plane, and I went home. The first thing I did was I googled what I saw. And I found out about Islam, and embraced Islam”. She took shahadah. By seeing the prayer.
  • You see when we go into rukoo’, we’re going full submission to Allah s.w.t. And what do we say in rukoo’, we say “Subhana rabbiyal adzim” How perfect is my, my Master, Al-adzim. The great, the powerful, the stable, the supreme. You can also say in authentically narrate “Subhana rabbiyal adzim wabihamdih” You can also say “Wabihamdih” after that. What’s beautiful in Islam is that we don’t have intercessors or intermediaries between us and Allah. We don’t need to go to a priest and confess our sins. La!(No). Everyone has a personal connection with Allah s.w.t.
  • When you stop glorifying Allah and praising Allah and making the remembrance of Allah, you drown in dunia. Umul Khaym he says “A heart that doesn’t sit and gather in the remembering of Allah over three days is dead”.
  • WOW! He says sallahualaihiwassalam when  you say subhannallah, walhamdullilah, or La ilahaillah or any form of those, these words take a physical form. And they go up to the Arash of Allah, throne of Allah and they go around the throne of Allah. “Yan atifna haulal arash lahunna dawiyunn kaddawiyunnahal” It has the buzz, like the buzz of a bee. You know bees, they’re always buzzing. You don’t see them quite, when they’re flying, moving they’re always “Bzzz”, like that. Bees, tahmid of Allah, they go around the throne of Allah buzzing. What do they say? “tu raqkirubisahibiha” They make mention of the one who mention it. Can you imagine now, you’re in the rukoo’, you’re the position of unstability…And you go forward and say :Subhana rabbiyal adzim” and the words you’re saying are going through these gates of yours that you have individually for you, up to the throne of Allah and they’re making mention of your name.
  • Keep your tongue moist with the remembrance of Allah. When you’re walking to school, when you’re walking to the masjid, make a zikir of Allah, always when you’re driving in your car, make a zikir of Allah. You’re sending up these gifts for yourself to Allah s.w.t

Bismillahirrahmannirahim. Alhamdullilahirabbil alamin. Wasalatu wassalamu warasulillah wa ala alihiwasahbihi wassalam.

Rukoo’. We’ve finished Surah Al-Fatihah, we finished recitation of the Quran, now the next step of Salah is we go into rukoo’. Now when we go into rukoo’, what do we say? ‘Allahuakhbar’. What do we say in the beginning of the program, in the beginning of salah?  ‘Allahuakhbar’ means Allah is Greater. Now why do we say it? What’s interesting is that we say it so many times. Only one position of salah that we don’t say Allahuakhbar and movements. In salatul Fajr, we say Allahuakhbar eleven times. In salatul Maghrib we say it seventeen times. And Zuhur, Asar and Isha we say Allahuakhbar twenty-two times. Why? Why do we keep repeating Allahuakhbar?

Because Brothers and Sisters its very easy to lose concentration. I’m telling you a story of the sahabah and how they were so concentrated and “Man, I can’t concentrate. It’s hard”. So Allah s.w.t built into the prayer a refocus button.

You know what’s interesting is when you’re recording something, if your camera shakes what happens? The camera needs to refocus. Anytime you move the camera it needs a second to refocus. When we move in salah we need to refocus and the refocus button is Allahuakbar, Allah is Greater.

So now maybe you’re praying and you thought “Man, the Imam is reciting really long”, Allahuakhbar, Allah is Greater. The way you’re thinking about “Hey buddy, focus!” It refocuses us on Allah s.w.t. No matter what’s going on and no matter what your minds wants to go to, you need to come back to Allah and remember that you are worshipping Allah. Allahuakhbar you go into rukoo’.

Now, number one and this is going to be consistent throughout every position of prayer and I’m going to say it, I’m going to keep saying it.You have to come to a position of stillness.

Even the scholars say this is a pillar of the pillars of salah. It’s a pillar from the pillars of salah. Meaning what? Meaning if you don’t do it your prayer is invalid.

Remember the hadith “Irraji’ fasalli fainnakalamtusalli” the man who prayed three different times.

Now in the hadith, Prophet wassalam said, Asswaunnasis sarakhatan aladziyasrikuminsolatihi layutimmurukoo’aha walasujood aha. Don’t ever go to rukoo’ like this “Allahuakhbar..sami Allahulimanhamida.” No, “Allahuakhbar” Stop and they say your back should be straight to the floor that if you put water on it, it won’t fall off. Straight. Straight. And you stop and now before we continue, you have to understand see. Those of you, anybody here who is a revert to Islam, they understand the meaning of rukoo’, sujood, better than those born into Islam. Most, most of them generally speaking is the reason why is because we grew up seeing people pray and rukoo’ and sujood. So we’re like okay we rukoo’ and sujood. But have you ever thought about whatever you’re doing? What if I told you everybody stand up and make rukoo’ to me?

You’ll be like “Boy, get out of my face! Who do you think you are? You want me to bow down like who are you? For me to go like this (rukoo’) to you?! You kidding me?!” Why? This is the position of humility. Submissiveness. When you do it, you do it for Subhanahuwattalla. You do it willingly. So think about what you’re doing. You’re actually going down and submitting to Allah s.w.t. Humbling yourself, and process the second most humble position of salah. And the final introduction to the most humble position of sujood. You’re humbling yourself to Allah s.w.t. Now when we go into rukoo’, you’re humbling yourself to Allah, this position subhanallah actually reflects something beautiful.

You know there was a man who wanted to give dawah to a church. He’s giving dawah to a church and you know how Americans they want to, ‘experience Islam’. Like in campuses you have like wear a ‘Hijab Day’ like ‘Fast-athon’ where people fast for a day and sometimes people pray with the muslims when they come to the masjid for a tour of the masjid. Sometimes people pray with the muslims. Oh this man, he went to the church. And this nun, a group of nun said “We want to pray with you” You know culture, we want to experience culture, you know religion. So the man prays and they pray with the man. After the salah, this nun tells the brother, she says “for twenty years, I have been worshiping God” whoever her God is “I have never found a position of my body to match the humility and submissiveness I have to God that’s in my mind until I experience your prayer”. We don’t think like that. We’re Muslims and we don’t think like that. It’s just down up down up. I’m submitting myself to Allah s.w.t. She’s like I’ve never found a position like this that matches my level, my mind. She says she’s a kosher in her mind but never experience it in her body.

You know there was once this lady at the airport.

You see when we go into rukoo’, we’re going full submission to Allah s.w.t.

And also its been authentically narrated, after you say this, so what you do is, you wanna do it three times, for sunnah its an odd number, Prophet wassalam would do three, you wanna do more, then go ahead. Want to do five, seven or nine, no problem, do five, seven or nine. But keep it odd if you can. “Subhana rabbiyal adzim wabihamdih” you wanna say it, say it three times. You say it three times. Then you say “Subhahu qaddusu rabbulmala ikati warruh” if you want to. But if you want to praise the Lord more, Constantly Perfect and constantly Holy is He, Lord of the angels and Angel Jibril (AS). Again if you say this odd number of times is preferred, one three five, no problem. You finish “Subhana rabbiyal adzim wabihamdih” if you want and then “Subhshu qaddusu rabbulmala ikati warruh”.

Now what’s interesting about this is the position of the prayer that you’re in. You know the rukoo’, what’s interesting is if I try to make rukoo’ with my body against this podium, its harder. Have you tried to make rukoo’ with your bodies against the wall? Because, see, your body is the centre of gravity, so when you go into rukoo. What happens is, your body your back part of your body goes backwards as your front part of your body goes forward to keep you centre of gravity stable, the middle. You don’t fall over. If you lean this way what happens? This leg starts kicking out, why? To keep your centee of gravity in the position where you don’t fall. The creation of Allah. Subhannallah.

Now, when you go to rukoo’, so you see there’s an unstable position, have you ever been in prayer when, sisters probably have it worse than we do, because you have like kids running around in salah. You know sometimes we have kids. I, I have experienced, maybe you have too. When you’re in rukoo’, a kid comes in fifty miles an hour, BAM!, runs into the back of you and you’re like Ohhh! And you fall forward, maybe you fall down. It’s an unstable position in salah. The quoted most unstable position is the rukoo’ position. What’s interesting is what we say. “Subhana rabbiyal adzim”. How I praise my Lord, the Great, the constantly Stable and powerful and supreme. We do, we praise Allah.

With opposite the position we place ourselves in. And then, not only that, is that the, the, the position itself. You know, we’re in rukoo’ and we’re saying these things and you know what’s interesting is Subhan, the word Subhann, was how perfect, we always translate to how glory be to Allah which is how perfect is Allah. Subhannarabbi, how perfect is Allah. Now, remember when we say Rabbi, it indicates closeness to Allah s.w.t. How My Lord, My Master, how perfect is My Master, what’s beautiful in Islam is that we don’t have intercessors or intermediaries between us and Allah. We don’t need to go to a priest and confess our sins. La!(No). Everyone has a personal connection with Allah s.w.t. How perfect is My Lord, the Constantly Supreme and Magnificent and stable. And then we say. But what’s interesting also is the word Subhan, the root is sin, baa, ha. And that means, you know sabaaha, you know the si ba ha, is swimming right. When you swim, and swimming is you’re trying to keep your head above water. You’re swimming, you don’t want to drown but you stop swimming …what happens is you drown. What’s interesting and amazing is that When you stop glorifying Allah and praising Allah and making the remembrance of Allah, you drown in dunia. Umul Khaym he says “A heart that doesn’t sit and gather in the remembering of Allah over three days is dead”.

The glorification of Allah is important. We say “Subhana rabbiyal adzim” how much am I in need of you Oh Allah. And now what’s amazing is and we’ll end with for the rukoo’, is the Prophet wassalam said in a sahih hadith in the books of Ibn Majah, he says “Innamimmatafkhurunaminjalalillah tasbihabihawatahmid” That what you make zikr of Allah, the remembrance of Allah. By saying at-tasbih; Subhannallah, wa tahlil; La-ilahaillah,wah-tahmid; Alhamdullilah. Now everyone of these words the hadith says at-tasbih, wah  tahlil, alif laam, at-tahlil, ah tahmid, when the alif laam is on the word, the ulama’ the scholars of grammar they say “ Tufiidurr istira’”. This gives the benefit of adding a wide variety of things. What does that mean? Whatever this word indicates, we say tasbih, at-tasbih, glorifying Allah, what that means is any words that glorify Allah, is included in this word, At-Tasbih. So now the Prophet wassalam says “Innamimmatafkhurunaminjalalillah” at-tasbih, wah tahlil, wah tahmid. Whatever you glorify Allah, you say La ilahaillah or saying Alhamdullilah, or any version of this, he says “Yan atifna haulal arash lahunna dawiyunn kaddawiyunnahal tu raqkirubisahibiha”Then he says “Amma yuhibbu ahadukum. an ya kulalahu awla yazalulahu. man yurakkirubihi” Ya Allah.

You know when I was applying for residency or you’re applying for a you know a position to get a job or trying to get a job those kind of things, you what they always tell you, after the interview, call them. Show your interest, mention your name, keep your name fresh. Right that’s what you want do. So the Prophet wassalam says “Amma yuhibbu ahadukum. an ya kulalahu awla yazalulahu” Don’t any of you wish to have or continue to have until the end of time “Man yurakkirubihi” Something that will make mention of you to Allah s.w.t. Can you imagine that? How many times do we say “Subhanna rabbiyal azim”, how many tasbih are we sending up, going around the Arash of Allah saying your name, in the presence of Allah. It’s beautiful. Now can you see why.

You can spend in rukoo’ thirty minutes. Can you spend in rukoo’ thrity minutes now? You’re glory- you’re submitting yourself to Allah, and you’re glorifying Allah, and you’re hooking yourself up. I’m sending things that will mention my name, continuing even after I die. “awla yazalulahu” Prophet wassalam says will continue to be in the Arash of Allah, making mention of your name. Sahih hadith. Subhanallah. Everybody say Subhanallah. (everyone) Subhanallah. You just have something now, going around. Subhanallah. You can just keep saying this. Subhanallah. And that’s why you make your tongue moist in the remembrance of Allah. When you’re walking to school, when you’re walking to the masjid, make a zikir of Allah, always when you’re driving in your car, make a zikir of Allah. You’re sending up these gifts for yourself to Allah s.w.t.
