Part 10 | Part 12

“GEM SHEET FOR BUSY PEOPLE”

  • When we say lets engage in Zikr, it does include the tasbihath, the tahleelath, the takbeerath, the taweem of Allah(SWT). Subhanallah, Alhamdulillah, Allahuakbar and so on.That is part of the Zikr of Allah. But, more than anything the Zikr of Allah(SWT) means the consciousness, the remembering of Allah. Whenever there is a sin to be committed someone remembers Allah, that is the Zikr of Allah and they don’t commit the sin. They become conscious of Allah(SWT) at all times.
  • One of the scholars said: “I learnt what is wrong in order to stay away from it because the one doesn’t know what is wrong wont even be able to stay away from it.”
  • Qur’an and Science: Allah says: “We will continue showing mankind, the signs of Allah(SWT) in the horizons and in themselves until there comes a time when they have made so many discoveries that they will find that the Quran is definitely the truth.” What does this mean? This means that the Quran has verses where scientific discoveries year after year will come to prove that what the Quran says is the truth. Let me give you one example: There was a time when the people and scientists said that the sun does not move and The Quran says: “The sun moves.” The Quran did not discuss how much it moves, how it moves but all The Quran says is that the sun moves. So there were some people in the 50’s and 60’s that said the Quran has made a mistake,  auzubillah! and the sun does not move. Later on, science adjusted itself to say that the sun moves but very little and who said it moves a lot. The Quran just said it moves, it does not discuss how much it moves but now science had to admit that the Quran is the truth, Allahuakbar!
  • The Sahaba(RA) who were unlettered, one verse made them cry. Take a loot at Ummar bin Khatab(RA), one of the arch enemies of Islam prior to his acceptance of Islam. He had to read a few verses as a non muslim. He read a few verses and he began to tremble. He said: “Where is Muhammad(SAW), take me to him. I want to go to him and declare the faith now.” What a miracle! With us, we read one completion after the other completion and we haven’t even been tickled by the verses of the Quran.
  • Allah says: Anyone who thanks Allah(SWT) for what he has, for what she has, for what they have been given – the level, the status, the spouse, the family they were brought into, the financial level, the level of health. If anyone thanks Allah(SWT) for that Allah will grant them increase.
  • Be thankful and don’t compare! Allah says: Anyone who thanks Allah(SWT) for what he has, for what she has, for what they have been given – the level, the status, the spouse, the family they were brought into, the financial level, the level of health. If anyone thanks Allah(SWT) for that Allah will grant them increase In sha Allah. But anyone who is ungrateful and start comparing their lives with those who are better than them in terms of materialistic items, Allah(SWT) says such people are ungrateful. “They don’t understand that We have given them whatever we have decided to distribute to them. Rather than being thankful they compare and compete.” It happened in some marriage where a person was facing a little bit of turbulence goes to tell their spouse, look at those people they are so happy. Yet, they don’t understand that those people are worse but they are good at covering up. Allahuakbar! So, don’t compare your situation with someone else’s. They might be comparing theirs with yours at the same time and you don’t know. Rather, turn to Allah(SWT) and say: “Ya Allah, Alhmadulillah I praise you upon every condition and I seek refuge from the condition of those who will be entering the fire. May Allah(SWT) safeguard us.
  • How do we thank Allah? Not only by tongue but also by our deeds. When we obey the commands, automatically we are thanking Allah. When we stay away from the prohibitions of Allah(SWT), automatically we are thanking Allah(SWT).
  • Shaytaan deceives! On the day when everything is complete, on the day of Qiyamah, shaitaan will say: “Allah has promised you a solid promise and i promised you an empty promise and you decided to come towards my promise disobeying Allah’s commands for my sake. I had no control over you. But i just called you and you came rushing towards me. So don’t blame me, blame yourselves.” Look at how shaitaan will disassociate himself from those who have followed him.
  • Remember, this world is very short. Rather than following our lusts and desires, we’d rather follow what pleases Allah(SWT) and in the Aakirah, we will have whatever we desire. But, if we desire that we want whatever we desire here, then in the Aakirah we may not have what we desire.
  • Allah(SWT) makes mention of a certain dua of Ibrahim(AS). He says: “O Allah, I have left my family there so that i can come and obey you and i can go out for your sake and I can earn your pleasures through worshiping you accordion to your instructions. So therefore I ask you Ya Allah, let the hearts of the people inclined towards this place (Mecca) and grant them with fruits and vegetables and crops at all times.” Yes, this dua was for his family members but anyone who came there after that. What about us? Can’t we feel that the response of this dua is positive? Everyones hearts inclines towards Mecca.
  • Then Allah(SWT) speaks about a very important issue regarding those who are oppressors. The lesson is for the oppressors and for those who have been oppressed. The Quran says: “Don’t ever think Allah has forgotten about those who are oppressors. They might oppress but Allah has given them respite unto a certain day. Face to face they shall be dealt with.” Allahuakbar! So Allah tells the oppressors to watch out. “If you keep on oppressing, remember its not that we have forgotten about you. But, we are giving you respite and one day we will deal with you. That day when the fixed appointed time comes.” And Allah is telling those are oppressed. Allah says: “Don’t worry about those who are oppressing you. One day we shall deal with them.” So, the lesson is for both. May Allah(SWT) grant us all lessons.
  • Sabr is an act of worship. Sabr is such an act of worship that Allah says: “Allah is with those who bear Sabr.” When can you bear Sabr? Only when you got a problem. This means, if you have a problem then Allah chose you specially to engage in a huge act of worship that will bring you closet to Him. Had it not been for that problem you would never ever be able to gain closeness to Allah through this ibadah known as Sabr.
  • Sujood is the only posture that a human being can easily get into where the brain is lower than the heart. The oxygenated blood that is pumped from the heart up into the brain in order to get into the rest of the organs of the body. So that those organs can function correctly and that oxygenated blood requires absolutely no effort to get into the brain because gravity pulls it down because the brain is now below the heart.
  • Girls are a Mercy! Whatever Allah has given you, he knows what He has given you. We need to thank Allah for the girl child. The girl child brings about much more barakah than anything else. Rasulullah(SAW) has stated that those who have three girls (in some narrations more and in some narrations less) and look after them and get them married to good spouses, Allah(SWT) will grant them Jannah. So only because they have looked after somebody else’s property. This means, girls who will be going elsewhere. May Allah(SWT) grant us that understanding. Then Allah says: ” Such people, they want to hide away from the community. They are shy of the fact that now they are fathers of a female child.” So, they want to hide away from community so that when people ask “what you got? A boy or a girl?”, they don’t have to say ” Oh..i got a girl..”
  • It is haram in the Shariah to even feel a little bit sad when you are told that there is a girl child. Rather, you should be so so happy that Allah(SWT) can bring lots and lots of goodness and even get us through to Jannah, May Allah grant us Jannah in this month of Ramadan.

ORIGINAL TRANSCRIPT

All praise is due to Allah(SWT) and complete blessings and salutations be upon Muhammad(SAW) and all his companions and all of us. May Allah(SWT) bless us in this holy month of Ramadan and may Allah(SWT) grant us all improvement in every single way, Aameen.

Honored Ulema, beloved brother and dearest sisters. Allah(SWT) speaks about the one who is intelligent in the opening verses that we read tonight. Allah speaks about Ullul-Albab, those who have brains, those who have intellect. Who are they? So Allah(SWT) describes them in this Quran and he says: “They are the ones that fulfill their promises. They do not break their covenant that they made to Allah(SWT). They understand that they have made a pledge to Allah in terms of the Iman and they will fulfill the commands and stay away from the prohibitions and they will not be among those who sever relations and ties that Allah has asked to maintain. Rather, they will be amongst those who strive and struggle to maintain the relations that Allah has commanded to maintain.” May Allah make us from amongst those who can solve our family issues and may Allah make us amongst those who can unite the Ummah. May Allah(SWT) grant us the ability to do that. Then he continues to say that they are the ones who bear lots of patience and they are the ones who engage in Salaah, who fulfill their Salaah. Daily Salaah is extremely important. They have so much benefit, In sha Allah. One day may Allah give us the opportunity to go through some of the benefits of Salaah. Not the spiritual ones, those are definitely there but we would like to go through the medical benefits of Salaah. May Allah(SWT) grant us that day, In sha Allah.

We need to be steadfast with Salaah because those who are intellectual and intelligent they establish their Salaah, they give alms to the poor, they give to the poor in secret and in open so that they can encourage others. When they give in secret, they give it because they want only Allah to know. When they give it in public they give it with the true intention but to encourage others that if we could give then you can also give, In sha Allah. May Allah make us from amongst those. Allah(SWT) describes them as those who will earn a very very high abode, In sha Allah. May Allah grant us all Jannah.

The opposite is also mentioned where Allah(SWT) says: “Those who sever/break the relations that Allah(SWT) has commanded. What will be outcome for them? They will be cursed.” May Allah not do that to us. They will have a very bad abode obviously. In the Aakirah, they will not be in a good place. May Allah(SWT) grant us a good place and may Allah safeguard us from destroying the relations that He has asked us to maintain. Thereafter, Allah(SWT) speaks about the Zikr of Allah. What is the meaning of Zikr of Allah?

When we say lets engage in Zikr, yes it does include the tasbihath, the tahleelath, the takbeerath, the taweem of Allah(SWT). From amongst those that remember Allah at all times. When something good is to be done, Allah is remembered and through that it encourages us to do the good or makes us do the good for the sake of Allah(SWT).

The Zikr is also the Quran because the Quran teaches us what is right and wrong. Had we not known what was right and wrong how would we engage in that which is right and how would we abstain from that which is wrong. Someone told us to eat a banana for example and we don’t know what a banana looks like, we might go to the shop and by an apple. It’s a fact. We might think its a banana. The same applies, if you don’t know what is wrong then how are you going to abstain from that which is wrong. We first need to learn what is wrong. One of the scholars said: “I learnt what is wrong in order to stay away from it because the one doesn’t know what is wrong wont even be able to stay away from it.” May Allah(SWT) grant us that understanding.

So, Allah says: “Those who believe they achieve comfort of the heart through the zikr of Allah (SWT) for definitely it is through the remembrance of Allah (SWT) that hearts will be at peace and at ease.” May Allah (SWT) take away all the difficulties we have in our hearts and minds and souls. Every one of us is going through different difficulties, different issues, different problems. Allah (SWT) knows your issues and mine and he knows the issues of the whole Ummah. May Allah (SWT) help us all in our different problems and issues. Remember, it is all a test from Allah(SWT). There is nobody on this globe who does not have any problem at all. Allah (SWT) creates problems so that we can turn to him. May Allah(SWT) grant us the turning to him at all times. So, that is as far as Allah(SWT) talks about how the Zikr has an impact on the heart. If you hear the Zikr of Allah(SWT) automatically it nourishes the soul. May Allah(SWT) protect us all. After that, Allah(SWT) speaks about something very important but before I get to that, let me go further down the Quran and mention one verse of the Quran. Allah says: “We will continue showing mankind, the signs of Allah(SWT) in the horizons and in themselves until there comes a time when they have made so many discoveries that they will find that the Quran is definitely the truth.” What does this mean?

In the same way there are other examples. One of the verses I am reading now. Allah(SWT) says: “Do they not see that we come to the Earth and we clip it from the edges.” We clip the earth from the edges. That is the literal translation of this verse. What is meant by clipping the Earth from the edges? So some of the the Sahabiyah said that there will be a large population and they will die. We will notice the people around us dying and that means clipping its edge and clipping the edges from the earth. That is also an interpretation. Later on, the Ulemah who went into the tafseer also looked at the scientific discoveries. Take a look at the water content of the Earth and the land content of the Earth and the ration between the two. Now you have the depletion of the ozone layer and the defrosting of the icebergs and what is happening? The lands is becoming less. It is getting clipped so much so that I have read an article where it says that Europe might be flooded, Europe might be under water after a hundred years. Who knows, Allah(SWT) knows best. So Allah(SWT) has taught us this here. If you read some of the articles of the news there are certain places which says that the sea is reclaiming the land. That is the word being used. How is that happening? Here we see that Allah is saying: “Don’t they see, that Allah is coming and clipping it from its edges?” He is making it smaller and smaller, this is one interpretation. Yet another interpretation, the Earth very long afoot seemingly very distant. If you wanted to travel from Mecca to Madinah an average time it will take you 8 days. Allahuakbar!

Today, not 8 hours, not even 4 hours. 30 minutes by aircraft. Allahuakbar! Infact, in 24 hours, I or you can move to any continent or island of the globe with an aircraft. Very soon, it will be even quicker than that. May Allah(SWT) grant us understanding. Communications are so advanced that now a days, what do we call the globe? Don’t we refer to it as a global village? Allahuakbar! We refer to it as a global village. Here Allah(SWT) is saying that We come to the Earth and clip its edges making it smaller and smaller. In size it remains the same but it now referred to as a global village. May Allah(SWT) grant us the understanding. If I’d like to speak to someone in the Fiji Islands, I just have to pick up the phone here now and dial the number and I will get through to them. This was impossible a long time ago. If we spoke about it people would think we were mentally disturbed. May Allah(SWT) grant usunderstanding.

Then after that there is Surah Ibrahim, Allah commences it by mentioning why He has revealed the Quran, what is the purpose and aim of this Quran. The Quran says: “The book we have revealed in order to take people from the darkness into the light. Take them out of the paths of Shaitaan and bring them to the one Sirat-um-mustakeen, the one straight path by the will of Allah.” Why does Allah say by the will of their Rabb? Because, sometimes there are some people, you can read the whole Quran to them but they wont bat an eyelid. Whereas, the Sahaba(RA) who were unlettered, one verse made them cry. May Allah not do that to us. We need this yakeen, when someone reads the verses of the Quran our hairs should stand, we should be feeling that this is our book that came from Allah. May Allah(SWT) grant us all the understanding. Infact, in the next Surah, Allah(SWT) makes mention of the protection of the Quran and Allah says: “We are the one that have revealed this book and We are the one to protect it. We will keep it in its original pristine form.” No matter what people try to do to it, there will always be some way or the other that this Quran will come back.

Now, we memorize the Quran. We should understand that if Allah(SWT) has promised that He is going to protect the Quran then if any one of us has memorized it, Allah has to protect us in order to protect the Quran inside us. That is something we must understand. So, the Kaffar, they are not protecting the Quran. The Quran is protecting them. Allahuakbar! This is one thing we need to understand and get straight. So each one of us, don’t we all have to memorize atleast a small part of the Quran. I am sure, every one of us knows Surah Fathiha. All of us know Surah Ikhlas. All of us probably know Surah Kauthar. Alhamdulillah! So, to a certain degree Allah has used us also to protect this Quran. Let’s thank Allah for that and lets make an intention to try and memorize one verse a day. So atleast through that barakah of learning the words of Allah(SWT), we will be protected. May Allah(SWT) protect us all. Then Allah(SWT) goes on to mention about the fact that overtime he sent a prophet, he sent the prophet in the language of the people that prophet is sent to. There is no prophet who requires an interpreter. Allah says: “We have not sent prophets, except in the language of the people they were sent to.” This is so that the issues can be manifest and clear. You and I know that when there is a lecture in our language, we understand it and it has an impact on us. When there is a lecture in another language that has to be interpreted, half of its spirituality might be lost just through the interpretation. Allah says here: One of the reasons you know the language of the people is so that you can make clear to them what is in your heart. The message that you have to deliver, you deliver it in the best language, simple language which everybody can understand. And it will be a peening In sha Allah to everyone. May Allah(SWT) beautify the message of the Quran so that it can get to our hearts and we feel like practicing upon it. Aameen.

Then, Allah(SWT) speaks about how those who are ungrateful, Allah will take away what he has given them.

So, it is important that we realize, if we want an increase in something we have, we need to thank Allah(SWT). How do we thank Allah? Not only by tongue but also by our deeds. When we obey the commands, automatically we are thanking Allah. When we stay away from the prohibitions of Allah(SWT), automatically we are thanking Allah(SWT). Allah says whoever is ungrateful, “Even what We have given them, we will snatch it back.” There is a possibility.

Allah says: :“If you are ungrateful, my punishment is severe.” May Allah(SWT) not punish us.

Allah(SWT) speaks about shaitaan and how shaitaan tells us, “You know how Allah promised you a solid promise and you knew that Allah’s promise is the truth and i made an empty promise and yet you decided to come towards my direction. I did not have any control over you besides the fact that I just called you and you answered.” On the day when everything is complete, on the day of Qiyamah, shaitaan will say: “Allah has promised you a solid promise and i promised you an empty promise and you decided to come towards my promise disobeying Allah’s commands for my sake. I had no control over you. But i just called you and you came rushing towards me. So don’t blame me, blame yourselves.” Look at how shaitaan will disassociate himself from those who have followed him. May Allah(SWT) not make us followers of shaitaan.

Remember, this world is very short. Rather than following our lusts and desires, we’d rather follow what pleases Allah(SWT) and in the Aakirah, we will have whatever we desire. But, if we desire that we want whatever we desire here, then in the Aakirah we may not have what we desire. May Allah not do that to us.

Then Allah(SWT) in these verses speaks about the fact that he has bestowed us with everything we want and everything we need. The air, Allah has given us our nose, our eyes, our ears, everything Allah has given us. So many gifts, Allah has created  around us, for us.

Allah(SWT) says twice in the verses we read tonight: “If you are to count or try to count the gifts that Allah has bestowed upon you, O man! you will never ever be able to circumscribe them. Never! You wont be able to bring them together. You wont be able to write them down, impossible! Definitely, man is very oppressive and they are very very ungrateful.” May Allah not make us from amongst those.

Let us turn towards Allah(SWT) asking to accept our good deeds and make us steadfast In sha Allah and follow the right path. We must also promise Allah(SWT) that the evil we have been engaged in for so many years, we will put an end to it hereafter for the sake of Allah.

Allah(SWT) thereafter, speaks about Ibrahim(AS). This is Surah Ibrahim. After Surah Hijr, Allah(SWT) tells us about Ibrahim(AS) and Allah says, “He left his family members in Mecca, at the time when it was barren and it was an empty valley.” Allah(SWT) makes mention of a certain dua of Ibrahim(AS). If i were to tell you, we can go to Mecca for 500 grands, I’m sure it would all be empty here because we would have all gone there. Alhamdulillah! If it was cheap, we would all be there. Our hearts are there right now as we speak. May Allah(SWT) take us there again and again. Let Him make us among those who when we go there we can promise Allah(SWT) to turn to him and we don’t go there to disgrace ourselves and come back the same terminals we were religiously. May Allah(SWT) forgive us all.

Then Allah(SWT) speaks about a very important issue regarding those who are oppressors.

That day when the fixed appointed time comes.”

And Allah is telling those are oppressed. Allah says: “Don’t worry about those who are oppressing you. One day we shall deal with them.” So, the lesson is for both. May Allah(SWT) grant us all lessons.

After that, Allah (SWT) speaks about Al Hijr. Al Hijr is referring to the rocky lands. It is said that these are the rocky lands of Petra, in the soothers part of Jordan. Allah(SWT) destroyed the people there and Allah makes mention of it here. But, in Surah Hijr, Allah speaks of the enemy Iblis again. Allah(SWT) tells us thereafter that the people of Hijr had belied the messenger. And then They were destroyed. After that at the end there is another very very important statement. Allah(SWT) will continue showing us signs within ourselves and in the horizons. Here is another verse. The address is to Muhammad(SAW). “O Muhammad(SAW), We know that the statements made against you by your enemies is narrowing your chest.” What does that mean? Do you know that lately, more recently, some of the doctors have gone into a certain study. The study of cholesterol and angina attacks people suffer with. There is a new discovery which can also be found on the internet which states that cholesterol is not necessarily caused by food. In fact, one of the biggest contributing factors of high cholesterol which is the tightening of the chest, you can feel it in your chest is stress. Allahuakbar! When the person is worried, when they have stress. Here, Rasulullah(SAW) is being instructed not the stress about what they are telling him. You know that it is lies, you know that it absolutely absurd what they are uttering. Don’t let it bother you, don’t worry and carry on. So this verse proves to us that stress is also a cause for high cholesterol. May Allah(SWT) protect us. Ask the doctors who are in this field and they will confirm that. Allahuakbar! This, medicine did not know until a few years back. But the Quran speaks about it in the verse. “We know that those statements are tightening your chest.” The tightening of the chest means the thickening of blood and that we nowadays call the sever ovate and angina attack. May Allah protect us all.

So, what is the solution? Do you think Allah(SWT) can leave us without a solution? He says:“Praise Allah in every condition.” Don’t be upset. Don’t be angry. Thank Allah for everything He has ever given you. Goodness comes towards you thank Allah. Something you might regard as evil befalls you, thank Allah. It could have been worse. It was tailor-made for you bear it with Sabr. Defenitely, Sabr is an act of worship. Allahuakbar!

So, we must not stress when something that we feel is bad befalls us we must thank Allah saying “Ya Allah, i thank you for giving me this opportunity to engage in Sabr.” The best of creations engaged in Sabr then who are we? Allahuakbar!

Allay says praise Allah on every condition. That is the first solution. The second one is to find yourself in the position of Sujood as much as possible. There is some medical benefit of the Salaah. Allah has brought it here today already.

Sujood is the only posture that a human being can easily get into where the brain is lower than the heart. The oxygenated blood that is pumped from the heart up into the brain in order to get into the rest of the organs of the body. So that those organs can function correctly and that oxygenated blood requires absolutely no effort to get into the brain because gravity pulls it down because the brain is now below the heart. Allahuakbar!

That is why we should be taking a little longer in Sujood. Instead of saying Subhana rabbi alala thrice, lets say it five times, In sha Allah! The other two will help us in a different way. Allahuakbar!

Now we are all nodding our heads because now we can see the medical benefits isn’t it. There are a lot of benefits of Sujood. When I say that it is the only posture that you can easily get into because there are other postures but they are quite difficult. For example we have a stress room where we have little strings hanging from the top and every time people were stressing they would be tied from their leafs so that their brains could now be below their heart. Allahuakbar! It sounds so silly and foolish. But anyway, Allah(SWT) has given Salaah as a gift to us. It will help you more than anything else. Lets engage in our five daily salaah. May Allah(SWT) make that easy for us.

After that, Allah(SWT) speaks about the bee in Surah Nahl. The message of Surah Nahl is very very interesting. Allah(SWT) speaks about the bee, as small as it is the bee is inspired where to go. When there is a hive and there is a queen bee in there, Allah inspires the queen bee which flower to go and get the nectar from. It is haram in the shariah of bees. It is haram for any bee under the queen to go another flower besides that which the queen has dictated. Do you know what is the punishment for any bee that decides to derive any sort of comfort and benefit from a flower besides the flower that the particular queen has decided is executed. Those who study the bees will know this, if you go to a hive, you will notice at the bottom there are dead bees. What was their sin? They came back with nectar of another flower. This is because Allah(SWT) has inspired the bee for our sake. Allah says: “honey is different colours.” You will find honey different colours and flavors naturally from Allah(SWT)’s inspiration to the queen bee. For your information, a bee derives a lot of pleasure when it goes to extract nectar from a flower. So if it looks at another flower besides the flower that it is supposed to be looking at and goes and derives pleasure from another flower that is not its own flower then, it is executed. Allahuakbar!

I don’t want to call it the zina of the bee but in actual fact if we think about it, it is deriving the benefit from a different flower. May Allah grant insaan that understanding. When Allah has created someone pure in terms of a spouse for us, we must never ever look elsewhere. This is because Allah(SWT), even among the bees there is a lesson that he has kept for us. Look at these examples in the Quran, Amazing!

So, Allah(SWT) speaks about that hear in this Quran. Infact, in Surah Nahl, Allah(SWT) talks about so many favors that he has bestowed upon us. Allah(SWT) also tells us that our children are actually a gift from Allah(SWT). Infact, Allah says that there are some people who get upset when they are informed of a female child. That is haram, absolutely haram. Here is what Allah says: “When one of them is given the good news of that they have glad tidings of a female child, you find that their faces become darkened and they beam angry.” May Allah safeguard us.

A boy or a girl?”, they don’t have to say ” Oh..i got a girl..” Allahuakbar!

It is haram in the Shariah to even feel a little bit sad when you are told that there is a girl child. Rather, you should be so so happy that Allah(SWT) can bring lots and lots of goodness and even get us through to Jannah, May Allah grant us Jannah in this month of Ramadan.
